When I was a child I used to always imagine stepping inside my television, and I would try to think about the world which I would enter. This installation gives you that ability by creating a 360 degree wall made up of 5,600 silicon rods. The circular wall is projected on from all angles, yet the silicon rods allow users to easily brush them aside as they enter in to an immersive dimension beyond the image.
This was without a doubt the highlight from the opening ceremony for me, and was the main reason I even watched it.
Created out of 204 copper petals which represent each nation taking part in the games, the cauldron symbolises the peaceful coming together of people around the world to celebrate, as well as take part in, the Olympic Games.
